2004 Dakota on 15" wheels
I'm brand new to the forum, but a long time dakota owner. I recently wrecked and totalled a 2000 Dakota Quad Cab 4x4 SLT. A week before the accident I had just removed the oem 15"x8" 6 lug aluminum wheels from the 2000 and put on my steel winter wheels and tires. This is a picture of the rims (mine aren't as clean!!). 15 inch rims
Just purchased a 2004 Quad Cab 4x4 Sport. My 2004 comes with 16x8 6 bolt wheels with 245/70 R16 tires. dodge had an optional 265/70 R16 tire available on the 2004. I'd really like to use my 15" wheels because i put new 265/75R15 on them last spring. I know i'll have no problems with the overall tire size, as they are virtually identical. Bolt patterns are also both 6 on 4.5".
Does anyone know if my 15" oem alum rims will fit on a 2004? I have read that the 2004 moved to disks all around which may be larger than the original drums (i had rear drums on the 2000). so will the 15" wheels fit over the brakes? I get the 2004 later this week, so can test fit myself, but would like to be sure that this combination has worked for someone else. thanks. bryan

thanks for the very quick reply. i need to go the other way though. you put stock 16's on a 2001, i want to put stock 15's on a 2004. I've read somewhere that the oem 15" wheel doesn't have enough inside clearance to allow '04 disk brakes to operate properly.
I put the 15s on my 2002, but of course I've got rear drums and not discs like your 2004. They should fit with no problems though. Best bet is to bolt one up and check. There doesn't need to be a whole lot of room. I'd like to swap the discs on my truck, but not if it means I have to get new wheels.
i'm not sure if my 2004 actually has the disks, i believe they were an optional upgrade if you took the 4 wheel abs. i didn't check the rear brake set up when i test drove the truck. pick the truck up tomorrow, so we'll see. thanks. bryan
