Default Difference between motors?

What are the differences between the regular 5.9L and the R/T version?

Going to pick up a 5.9L block today from a wrecked R/T. Let the rebuild begin!

The motor itself? Zip, zilch, zero differences.

The ECU is tuned a little differently and it has a little different muffler, that's about the extent of the differences between an R/T and non-R/T, and what makes up the few hp difference.

if you are going to rebuild the 360, punch it out to a 408 and you will see quite a big difference in power, go to www.krcperformance.com and see there dyno shts, compared to the motors. also there is some much avail. for the 360 in performance parts

Really...I thought they had a diff cam for one.

The 408 is made by stroking it right? That would be sweet.

I thought the R/T had a different cam as well but I could be wrong. I don't have much experience with them so what the hell do I know? LOL.

I guess it doesn't even matter to me, I just bought the block. So where I go from here is all up to me.

Nope, 318 and 360's all used the same cam in the recent past (perhaps from the early/mid 90's when the Magnums took over.)

There's only a 5hp and 10lb-ft difference - muffler and ECU tuning tweaks only. If it had a different cam + muffler and ECU tweaks I would HOPE they'd get much better numbers.

I've looked up the parts in the OEM catalog (www.dodgeparts.com), go ahead and try to find a different cam.

And check the valve timing specs - there's one set of specs under 5.9 liter engine. The R/T's just aren't that special (no offense guys, I wanted one until I got my qc and got basically an R/T 4x4).

408 is made by boring a 360 out .030" as well as using a 4" stroker crank. Hughes has a 426 kit for the 360 as well, using a 4.166" crank, or some such thing. Without boring to clean up the cyls a 360 with the 4" crank is 402 cid. .060" overbore results in a 414, and .080" equals a 418, although that leaves some thin cylinder walls and when it needs a rebuild, the block is basically done so it's not a wise choice.

They have some cool setups on the KRC page.

I have my eye on the 408 Naturally aspirated 12.80 combo. I wouldn't mind 328hp and 436ft/lbs to play with

Hughes got over 560hp and 530lb-ft out of a 360-based 426 on 92 octane.

Yeah I saw other configs with higher HP, turbo and supercharged, hell one had 700+hp 408.

I don't want it to be so extreme I have motor issues, something powerful yet functional. Plus I am all about pulling and mountain trail off-roading, so I would rather have a low-rpm torquey motor than a high-rpm racer. If I needed an extra jolt I could throw a 150 shot of nitrous on it and get an extra 100hp/ft-lbs when needed

That site had alot of different configs to think about though.
