Default how reliable?

Did the 1999 5.2 engines have any major problems even when they got way up on mileage?

well the only thing that goes wrong is the intake plenum gasket. otherwise its a solid motor. I have 205,000kms on my 99 and is still goin strong. and as long as you maintain them, they will last forever

major brake issues. look for my thread. brakes etc AWOL and others. POS in my opinion. Chrysler = Bush, Weapon of mash destruction, **** oil.

Yup, those 5.2 engine brakes are crap.

The motors are solid. 200k miles isn't unheard of, although you'll probably want to rebuild it by then just to freshen everything up.

yeah actually you guys are forgetting the timing chain is junk... should put a double roller in there and a tensioner. as far as brakes go... powerstop cross-drilled rotors & pads... worked great on my 2000 ram & my wifes 2002 dak...

i had a 97 full size with the 5.2 beat the snot out of it worse than i do my dak. only one major issue with it and it was the crank shaft sensor. other than that solid.
