Default Im getting a flowmaster.. need help

Im getting a flowmaster 50 and i'm going to have a shop install it for me.

Few questions. First off, I want a loud powerfull sound, but not an obnoxious one. Is this a good choice? I'd be leaving my cats on. Its a 3.9 V6.

Second, is that the only thing I need to purchase? The flowmaster 50?

Also, what size do i need? 2 1/2"?

Anythign else i need to konw?

i did a straight muffler replacement on my truck. i started with a 50 but you could barely tell the difference between that and stock, i honestly beleive it could be sold as a stock replacement. i went back and got a flowmaster 40 and it was exactly what i wanted. you cant hear it inside with the radio on and its not obnoxious yet you can definately tell its an aftermarket exhaust

I would suggest going with the 40 series, which has a more aggressive tone to it. The 50 series is alot more quiet and mellow, darn near stock sound.

I had a 40 on my 03 SXT 3.9L and it sounded like a V8 at idle and nice power but not to loud when you give it the gas......tried a 50 at the muffler shop before having them put on the 40 and it just was hands down a much better sound.

Wait, which was a better sound.. the 50 or the 40? Did you get the super 40 or whatever? Which one

I got the 40 on my 88 3.9 and it doesnt sound too bad. I dumped it right before the rear axle. it will never sound like a V8 though
