You want a shaker then, you have the air filter over the throttle body and you have it sticking out from the hood with weather striping around the cutout hood, so when you close the hood it goes around the throttle body, this gets rid of all tubes and air boxes, the air comes directly in from the top of the throttle body, they call it a shaker becuase you can see the engine scoop shaking, it also looks badass..

if you have ever seen a mach1 stang they have shakers stock, ill see if i can find a pic real fast of a shaker hood.

HERE is a good pic...

shakers look awesome, are they cheaper than a cowl or air ram, do you use the stock hood and cut it or do you get a brand new hood

with a shaker hood you have to buy the whole hood and the cover that goes over the engine. I think they look pretty sweet.

iirc I think there around the same price as a cowl hood or a ram air.

yeah thats closer to what i'm looking for. its not quite like the old style because on them the whole hood lifted up and you could still see the air element. it just locked the hood down around it when you shut it but. that looks like it might work for me

I thinkI know what you mean now... its a ram air or cowl hoodstyle with a 14" round open air cleaner with a shroud around it and rubber on the top of it to make a complete seal.

it would be really easy to do. I'm thinking on doing that to my 88 dak now.

you could probly go buy a ram air orcowl hood and cover the bottom of the hood in aluminum. then cut hole in it right over top of the 14" air breather you put on. then find something to put around everthing to seal it off to the hood. then you will have true cold air.

if you covered the bottom of the hood in diamond plate aluminum, I think that would look sweet!

what I would do is go buy a cowl hood. ( I think they look better then ram air and more practical for a daily driver) then go buy a piece of diamond plate aluminum and screw it to the bottom of the hood. then mark out where your air cleaner is gonna be, and cut out a huge hole in the aluminum. (the size is up to you). then mount the hood on your truck. now I dont know what you can use to put around the air breather, maybe make an aluminum box for it? I dont know. then get a roll of rubber to seal it to the hood. and your all set.

but dont for get to drill a lil hole in the bottom of the box around the air cleaner to let water get out.

now you have me all pumped up I'm gonna start workin on somethin like that for the ol dakota.
