Default Power Steering Noise

Hello folks:

I am new to forum. I have looked for a similar post but could not find.
I have a 99 Dakota SLT 5.2L V8 2WD Automatic.

Here is my problem:

I have a noise that seems to come from power steering. It sounds like a belt noise and a groaning sound as well but I have checked the belt and it looks good. I also checked the steering fluid and it is OK. The steering seems to work well. Noise only occurs when you turn wheel and can occur turning left or right. The noise does not occur all the time but comes and goes and mostly occurs at lower speeds.

Thanks for any input.

sounds like your power steering pump is going. you can try and change the fluid in it and see if that helps. if not, you'll have to buy a new pump. mine made a whining noise when it went out too.

Yea, my power steering is starting to make noises from time to time.
The good news is the pumps aren't all that expensive (around $50 from NAPA).
