Default power steering leak and code

After traveling 150 miles to VA I noticed a steering fluid leak and then my check engine light came on. I scanned a code that was this........

P0551 Power Steering Switch Failure Incorrect input state detected for the power steering switch circuit. PL: High pressure seen at high speed.

So do I need to get a new switch or what.......I am new to Dodge ........I'm a simple jeep man.

Sounds like you may need to get a new pump.

It doesn't matter if your CEL light wnet off. If you are leaking power steering fluid, you have a problem. You need to find where it is leaking from. It could be from the pump, the hyrdo lines running to and from the rack and pinion, or the rack and pinion itself. If you have a leak, you will need to keep filling the pump, which is like putting a band aid on a gunshot wound. It will eventually leak all the way out, which means you will need a new pump.

I let my 88 dak go for too long with a leaky rack and it blew the pump. so I suggest fixing the problem before it gets worse.

You do not have to replace the power steering pump. It was the power steering pressure switch which is a $21 part. Just a follow up..
