Put it in, some engines can retard timing enough. My 2001 Explorer Sport ran 85 octane no problem. E85 is a no no with a gasoline eninge.

Octane just reduces spark knock. In many cases, you'll get less performance with higher octane ratings other than what your vehicle calls for. The octane rating is the quantity count of how many hydrocarbons are in the fuel.

Not that i dont belive you but wouldnt less oxygen mean the computer would send less fuel to the engine to keep the same fuel to air ratio?
The volume of air stays the same, but the density of the oxygen in it goes down due to the decreased pressure. To my mind what you're saying makes more sense, but apparently the science of it works out so that lower octane fuel is required. []

Once a month I fill up with 93 and a bottle of injector cleaner
The truck runs a LOT better than when I first got it
