plans for sub box?
ok the secret to making your box thin is build a box where the back piece of wood has a hole in it the size of the magnet of the speaker so you can make the magnet flush with the back of the box. then silicone thecracksThis saves an inch or 2 depth on your box. also fill your box loosely with pillow stuffing to get rid of the hollow home made box sound. i'll post a picture of my box tomarrow. It sits 2 10 inch sony xplods. I dont have carpet on it yet so its not the prettiest thing in the world.
ok im sorry but that is a terrible idea. For one there is no way you could seal the box around the magnet, the air presure would be to much. Ive got a 10 in my truck and the only trick is to make the box more tall then wide. Just make the box half inch deeper then the magnet. You want it at least half inch or the box will vibrate off it making one annoying sound. make it as tall and as wide as you want.
I have to second Erich, the pressure in the subwoofer enclosure would be too much for most silicone to handle. You could put something a little more durable, but talk about ruining your subs. I'm putting Eclipse subs in mine and I would never put anything on them!
I got one in my quadcab. The box usually goes for 250 or so...I snaked mine for 100. So I wouldnt be building one, I'd look around and frind a box that is fit for your truck.
for one...don't ever mount your magnet up against the back of the box...soundwaves travel so there will be vibration and you will be starting over again.
second...unless your making a ported box, the whole point of the box is to seal it. cutting a hole in the back thinking that silicone will keep it sealed is almost the stupidist thing i've ever heard. the pressure created is going to blow it out.
moving on. the easiest way to gain space is by removing the back panel out of your cab. it will give you 2" (yeah, now you don't have to cut holes in the back of your box. i bet the other guy wishes he thought of this). after removing the back panel there will be 3 bolt studs you be able to mount your box to. this way you can insure it.
depending on how tall you are (how far back your seat goes), you can fit 10's comfortably. some idiots just stick a box back behind their seat and drive around with their knees in the dash. how stupid is that! pointless if you cant enjoy it.
im 6'2" and like my seat back so 10 didn't work for me. i've got 2 8's each sealed. the unit is one large piece and the amp sits between the two speakers.
there are also to vents in the back of your cab. one behind the passenger and one behind the driver. if you cut it out right(the backside of your box) your able to use these vents to keep your amp cool. im pushing 800W and you would think i've got 10's just because the cab is so small.
anyhow. if your going to put in a system, do some research, come up with a plan, and don't take any short-cuts.
also, putting polyfil in your box isn't to get rid of the "hollow home made box sound", it makes your speakers think the box is upto 40% lager.
some people have good intentions but really don't know what they are talking about. im not trying to slam dakluver but that is really bad advice.

i made that ONE. it was really time consuming since it was my fist one. there are a few things i would do differently. like there would be now screw caps on the front. i think that would clean it up a bit more. but thanks! the best part is you can't even tell its a box looking from the outside. i used a black felt instead of carpet since it saved a little more space, maybe about 1/2" or so. maybe i'll make up some plans and you can pay-pal me and i'll send em to you. hows that? or are you willing to pay 250.00 for it?
i have a club cab, but that is a heck of a good price i think for a custom box i like how you even thaught of the feet to keep the seat out of the subs, try mentioning it on a post by its self on the board, im sure there are people that need one
