Automatic Transmission not going into reverse
Hi I'm new to this forum, and I had a question. I have a 2001 Dodge Dakota with an automatic tranny and it will not go into reverse. It was in an accident and when I got it back from the body shop I noticed that it did not shift into reverse. All other gears work fine, but reverse. When I put it in the reverse gear it doesn't do anything. I tried searching, but only found one thread that kind of related that mentioned it turned out to be a bad O2 sensor. I was just wondering if I may be in the same situation or if I need to get the transmission rebuilt as I have been told by some people. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
Did you have reverse before the accident?[sm=confused06.gif] If so, there is a thing that all isurance co.s hate called "concealed damage".[sm=bicker.gif] I'd talk to the body shop that did the repair work. How did they get it around the shop w/ no reverse?[sm=WTFsgign.gif]
if you had reverse before the accident, then it's probly just a linkage. but I would fight the insurance company to fix it. my A/C crapped out on me with my accident last summer and they wouldnt fix it, because the said that the accident wouldnt have caused that.
on the older mopars the trans would not go in reverse when the trans oil filter was cloged. why rev. and not forward gears? because rev. runs the trans. line pressure to 350 psi. forward gears to 100 200 rsi. the higher pressure takes more volume of oil that the cloged filter cant pass. but i dont know about the newer mopars.
Have you tried to put it back in park again and shift into reverse again? I have to do that all the time on my dads 95 dakota and my 2001.
