MPG on Hemi Durango
I have 10,000 miles on my 07' AWD Hemi Durango and the mpg is absolutely HORRID... I see 10-12 city and 15-16 tops on highway mpg. And I stay out of the throttle as much as possible. I set the cruise right on 70 mph on the highway. I did a magna flow exhaust and CAI and it didn't help AT ALL. I have no idea how someone says they are getting 20-21 mpg in their durango. I'd love to see that claim in person! HA!
My 04 Hemi limited AWD (3.92) gets a consistent 13.5 mpg in 20/80 (city/HY) driving. At 75mph HY it's 15.5mpg. Six months of the year I'm pulling several trailers (3,000 - 5,000 lbs) at 65mph it does 11-13 mpg. I consider this very acceptable mileage for the type of vehicle this is. I lace the pedal to the wood at least once a day while getting on the highway and run it to 80 cause it's fun with the Hemi. If I was concerned about gas milage I would of bought a Rav4 type SUV. I'm looking at a new 24' enclosed 7,500 lb trailer and I hope that this Hemi package will pull it safely at HY speeds.
I've always thought my '05 D w/Hemi was an anomoly as I average 17.9 with 75% atlanta traffic and only 25% highway over 5 months but now I see there are a few others. By no means do I baby the throttle, it just always done well. After about a dozen 100% highway trips it's never gotten below 21 MPG and was as high as 23.1. All I've done is made the switch over to M1 synthetic which actually added about 1.5 MPG. At 53K miles now with original tires and plugs (I know they're well over due).
