Default 4 Lock Light flashing occasionally

This past week my 4 lock light has come on and flashes. It doesnt happen every time I drive it but has happened a few times this past week. I never use the 4wd so I'm not sure whats wrong. Just wondering if anyone might know whats happening. It is a 2005 Durango

Thanks!!

BF:

Several folks seem to be having this issue lately. In most cases, it has turned out to be the transfer case control module. How many miles on your D? Are you the 1st or second owner?? If so, this issue should be covered under your 7/70 powertrain warranty with a $100 deductible.

Look under the dash and find the wire harness next to E-brake switch. I have found the harness laying on the switch and rubbing on the switch, a short to voltage.

Our D does this, too. Where is the e-brake exactly and what switch might be laying on it? If not this, how much would a transfer case control module cost? Can I do this myself or where is it located? Thanks for your help.

ROR:

MT brings up another possible cause thatI was not aware of with the harness issue.

IIRC, the TCCM is next to the hood release handle, up under the dash abit. Some folks have found them at boneyards for $100 or less, but reportedly the going new price is in the $400 range.
