truck won't start...
hey all. so yes i have a dakota but my roomate has a dodge durango 2000 4x4 SLT. the thing won't start. before we had thought the battery was the cause cause we jumped it and it worked for a few days but then went out again. since then he got a new battery and installed and the truck worked for a day or 2 and again now the "new" batter won't hold charge. its like something is constantly draining batter power all the time...? any suggestions are apreciated. we just turn the key and its dead no lights or nothing. so we assum its something electical draining the battery after each time we have jumped it......
DD:
Surely sounds like something is amiss. Possibly a charging system issue. I would put a good charge on the battery, then hook an ammeter in line with the battery and see if any current is being drawn with everything turned off.
If so, then try to isolate it by carefully removing fuses one at a time to see when the draw stops.
One note of caution: most likely the ammeter you will use will not be rated to handle the current drawn during starting, so you should not attempt it.
Might want too have your alternator tested as well just for kicks.
