My dealer was hesitant to admit there was problem or recall too, they only admited to it once they knew I had already looked it up. Chrysler just straight denied the recall and acted as if this was breaking news to them.

I am guessing because it is and not happening as frequent now, this thread has sorta slowed down....so it does appear to happen more when it is cold out...

I have just stopped filling it up completely, which obviously isn't a fix, but it is safer than spewing gas all over the place.

You are correct, once the temps outside get 75-80 degrees or above consistently the problem doesn't happen for me at least. I believe it has to do with that the gas is more volatile in hot conditions and therefore the gas-pump cut-off works like it is supposed to because it senses the fumes faster.

I can fill it up completely very fast in hot weather. Once it starts dipping below that, I fill it up still, but after about 20-22 gallons I slow down and put a half gallon at a time, and stop for few seconds, etc... until it cuts-off on its on. Prevent it from spewing then. At most I might get a little trickle out.

I have learned to live with it, because I have complained to NHTSA, and I have complained a few times to Chrysler, but I don't have the time right now to fight it for months just to get it fixed for free, and then realize there is a defect in the new gas tank, and have to go back to the dealership again and again till they find a good tank. I refuse to pay to fix this problem, but I also refuse to ever by another Chrysler product again either.

There are plenty of people I know from Dodge Nitro's, to Jeep Cherokees, to other Durango owners of multiple model years that all tell me they have the same problem. I wonder how many have just willingly gotten it fixed and gave the dealership another cash cow when they should be complaining and fighting about it?

More proof it is vapor lock related.

As I stated probably 100 posts ago, why not just get under there, figure it out and fix it. Lord knows when somethings wrong on mine, that is exactly what I do.

Good luck forcing Chrysler Group to pay for the sins of Chrysler, LLC. The Italians don't play that.

When I first bought mine a couple of months ago it burped (puked, more likely) every time at the pump for about a half-dozen fillups. Then it "got healthy" and no longer puked. Just yesterday it puked again after a long hiatus.

I always fill completely using the locking handle on the pump and use the slowest fill rate of speed.

I have a 2006 Durango, we bought it used in February 2011. the first time I went to fill it up it overflowed. Then it happened again when my husband went to fill it up. Now I just try to guesstimate how much to put in so it never gets completely full. I checked for recalls, there are none. Is there anything we should try to do or is this a lost cause? I can't believe something like this is not recalled. I love my Durango and have always been a Dodge lover, but this is ridiculous.

Please read through this thread. You will see that this is a known problem, and that there is a Chrysler technical service bulletin concerning the issue. However, the fix, as set forth by Chrysler does not always solve the problem. In many cases, including mine, it took, two new gas tanks, and several other parts to solve the issue. I had an extended warranty, which covered the fix. However, many others don't and have gone to great lengths to get Chrysler to pony up. Others have just learned to live with the problem. My suggestions are for you to read this thread; download the technical service bulletin, find a Dodge dealer that is not in denial, and will work with you, learn what others have done with respect to Chrysler. Good luck
