Gas fill overflow on my 06 durango
Got the TSB done last week and had a chance to fill it up yesterday. Temp was 39F and NO spillage when the pump clicked off.
So it looks like the problem was fixed and it cost me nothing.

I went to the dealer to pick up my receipt (or copy of it) and I noticed in the last few weeks of purging from the gas door. The service manager would not get off his *** to look at the trail of black, gritty substance purging from my tank unless I set up a service appointment. I will have to wait until spring when I can drive one of my other cars and he thinks it 'could' be the charcoal canister leaking. So, what would be leaking from the fuel door that is not gasoline (no smell) and it dark brown to black in color and gritty?

I just got off the phone with the dealer. After waiting 10 minutes and talking to 3 people, I finally got an appointment for them to diagnose my problem. Funny thing is, it was already diagnosed by a different dealer. This dealer would not fix it without diagnosing it again. Then, I was told that I would have a better chance of getting my D in quicker if I came in the morning vice the afternoon even though I would have an appointment. What is the purpose of scheduling an appointment if they don't stick to it??? Then, once diagnosed, it takes a day to overnight the part. So I am making two trips to this dealership since I am not leaving it there for a few days to get fixed.
My frustration right now is that dealerships really could give a **** about anything other than selling you the car. After you you buy the car from them they aren't going out of their way to do anything for you. This is the second dealership I called this morning. The first one gave me an answering machine twice. I actually found the dealer to be pretty decent and they didn't mind ordering the part before I got there. Like you, who wants to make multiple trips and be without the car for days? Makes you wonder how they stay in business with service like that.
The person that really annoyed me in all this was the "Customer Care Manager" at Chrysler Canada. When I asked about this extended warranty (and provided my VIN, TSB #'s, etc) at the end of January she told me in 2 emails:
"As stated previously, there is no factory warranty on your vehicle. As such, the warranty you have made reference to does not apply to your vehicle."
Great service, eh? And she's the manager...
Luckily the dealer jumped in and scheduled an appointment with no diagnosis. They just fixed the problem as they should.

got the same thing here; she said "it is VIN specific..." When I brought up the fact that the car does have the same problem, same year, etc. she put me on hold; she came back with "since you are the 3rd owner we can't do anything for you". I told her we had been considering a new Dart AND a new Wrangler, she still failed to acquiesce.
You'd think having owned 7 Dodges over the past 20 years (and 4 of those in the past ten) they would care about retention; guess I'll buy the Mazda3 this week and forget about the Dart.
Planning on buying the part (about 90 bucks, plus shipping) and fixing it myself.

I just got back from the dealer. I watched him pull up my VIN # an he told me X39 didn't apply. He even pulled another customer's receipt and showed me how the X39 would appear. He then went to the warranty person who looked up my VIN and she said it didn't apply. The service guy showed me then showed me that my 2006 Durango was built in 2006. He was really confused as I was starting to boil. Luckily I didn't pay to get it diagnosed again. I already paid 98$ to get it diagnosed a few months ago at a different Dodge dealer. He is going to have his service manager call Chrysler and see if they overlooked my VIN. At least this guy is not giving up on me; I am glad someone wants to help. I wish they could have looked this stuff up before I drove all of the way out there. I am deploying again in 20 days and don't want to waste my precious time off going to a dealership that can't fix a safety issue...
Dodge is losing my respect faster and faster. I am almost regretting getting a Durango when I could have bought an SUV that seated 7 and got better gas mileage that was more reliable. It isn't like I tow all of the time and need the HEMI and 3.92's...If I didn't get a smoking deal (14,500$ out the door with almost every option and 70,000 miles...) on this one I'd be pissed.
Time to call Chrysler again...

Well to add to the drama now the rep Erica called me back today as promised. As expected she couldn't explain to me why my VIN appears to be "skipped" over on this. She also told me that she also had called the dealer who made the "diagnosis" and because they told her that the check valve was NOT the problem they can't do anything for me! So then I ask her if the told her how they diagnosed it…and of course she couldn't tell me. I kindly told her exactly what they told me " I dunno I think our guy crawled under and looked at it". She tells me that she's not a technician and I agree with her that she's right, but then I explain to her that I have over 20 years in the automotive field and that at the very least should have been tested by some sort of smoke test or others means of testing. I tell her that this is unacceptable and that want a full explanation why I'm being denied. She promises to call me back before I leave work which she did. At this point she says the only thing he can do is have me bring it to another dealer pay the diagnostic fee and possibly the repair and they'll offer some sort of monetary assistance but won't pay for the whole thing. I tell her this is still unacceptable and I'm not pleased with this. Right now this is pretty much leaving me with 4 options…
1. Call the Attorney Generals office
2. Call the local TV investigative team and maybe blow this whole thing open…
3. Just bite the bullet and get the parts at my cost and fix it myself (which I shouldn't have to do)
4. Just do nothing and leave the truck as is and not fix a thing…
Erica is going to call me on Monday to see what I'm going to do. A part of me wants to just say screw it and forget about this whole thing and another part of me wants to keep going and fight it because it feels like the right thing to do. It's really looking like Chrysler is trying to do anything possible to not hold themselves accountable for this. Which would totally explain why this has been released as a TSB and not a recall…so they technically don't have to held responsible. I'm so beside myself right now its not even funny…
