Gas fill overflow on my 06 durango
My 05 durango w/ 43k miles has the same problem. The dealer told me mine wasn't part of the recall and to call chrysler. I knew then I was in for a ride, well chrysler opens a case, then a case manager calls back and tells me the same thing, not part of recall. She then offers to "assist" me with this issue by having me take it to the dealer where I have to pay a diagnosis fee and then maybe they will cover only some of the charges. The funniest part is that she denied any durangos ever having this or any other gas tank related issues or recalls. I declined her generous offer and then called nhtsa to file a complaint. Anybody know what else I can do besides a nhtsa complaint?
mp7, call Chrysler back and go through the procedure again. If they refuse to cover the cost, ask to speak to their boss. If they refuse to pay 100%, go to the next boss. Etc. etc., repeat. Make enough noise, mention the safety risk about a fire, and you should eventually get it done.
One of the next weekdays I have off, I am going to be doing this myself.

Ok I wil call them again, I spent 45min arguing with the case manager the first time but ill try to make some more noise. Its a shame dodge won't admit that a lot more vehicles are affected by this, maybe they are waiting for a fire followed by a lawsuit.
Greetings to you all

Keep posting, keep finding others who have his issue and keep complaining.
I post to the NHTSA and to Chrysler (Dodge) every week with updated numbers of complaints.
they are so tired of hearing from me that they had someone from Chrysler (Dodge) call me from a blocked number and tell me that because of my owner loyalty, they would fix it for free.
KEEP THE MOMENTUM MOVING!

I bought a used 2007 1500 Ram and it has happened from the first time I filled and I have filled it up at hundreds of stations between Iowa, Minnesota, Nebraska, Missouri, and Illinois. Same result at EVERY station. I tried putting the gas pump at the slowest fill notch and it still happens (just not as much comes flying out)
I am thinking seriuosly about filming it, and sending it to Dodge....this should be a recall of some sort wouldn't you think? This could be considered a danger I would assume.

this is what I posted today and I am going to send the same email directly to Chrysler.
NHTSA:
Has there been enough evidence that there is a problem with the 2nd Generation Dodge Durango yet to open an investigation??
Since 1 January there have been a total of 178 Complaints posted on the website www.arfc.org.

You cannot watch these videos and not feel that there is a Major safety related issue that needs to be addressed.
Please open an investigation now and get this some attention that it deserves for the owners of the Dodge Durango.
Each time I provide a complaint or email, I get a confirmation that it has been escalated for attention but then nothing ever happens.
1-XXX-XXX-XXXX is my personal cell phone number and I would like a human being to contact me and justify why we are all being stonewalled right now.
Chrysler (Dodge) will not do anything voluntarily, rather they will tell the owners that it is an out of warranty repair and will require a Copay. Then if you complain enough times, they will even say that they will reduce the cost and it will be handled as a good will case.
I have rejected the offer from them to not pay anything at all for the repair basically for my silence or as they say my customer loyalty.
The damage is done and I will not own another Chrysler product again for the simple fact that they have provided a vehicle to the public that has a significant flaw and will not act in the best interest of the company.
I am also very frustrated with you (NHTSA) because the evidence is there and it should be a simple.
Call me!!!!
I will drive my Durango where ever you would like to use it as a test case.
The owners are reaching out for your support and in some cases filming a fuel stop and allowing the fuel to spray up and out of the fill tube and potentially create an explosion just to show you that there is a problem.
Act now and do what is right for the consumer!

just wanted to give you owners an update, my wifes 07 nitro had the same issues, apperently the ethanol that they use attracts alot of water, the gas tank, filler neck and check valve were rotting out from the inside. Luckly Sharon bought the extended warrenty, saved her 500.00 dor a complete tank assembly. sorry if this was posted, didnt read all the pages.
I have 61,000 miles on my 2007 Durango Limited 5.7 and had the problem from Nov 2010 until early April 2011. I am still buying at the same group of stations but it does not overflow anymore. I have tried tucking the rubber splash guard ring on the pump nozzle into the filler door opening while pumping and wonder if that made any difference.
Could this be a temperature based issue? Either way, my dealer didn't have a clue and said he had never heard of the problem.

My wife's does it more often in the cold, but I figured out that if, when I know its getting close to full, I slow it down and pump it more slowly (as slow as it'll go usually), it won't kick any back out.
