Default Please Help!

Ok, so this is my first time here, but it's because I've run into a severe problem with my car. A 2004 Dodge Durango limited. I am at Sub School in connecticut right now and only drive about once a week. So the car sits for a week at a time. Well went to drive it to the store to pick up food and it was dead, the electric lock wouldn't work. So when I went to unlock the car with the key it wouldn't turn at all. So I thought it was just "frozen" as it had snowed a whole lot the day before. So I bought some de-icer and that did absolutely nothing. So now I'm down to either paying $100 to get a locksmith to come out and open the door or finding a way to open the hood and get the battery some juice to electrically open it, or pick the lock somehow. Any suggestions on getting the hood or door open without calling the locksmith would be amazing.

thanks, DB

You should repost this in the second generation Durango section as this is the general forum. I know that the power lift gate has no key hole and I would think that AAA could unlock the door with a tool,

Well I just called my insurance company, and I added roadside assistance for like $1.50 a month for my 2 cars. So I gotta wait til tomorrow and they can come unlock it. Gonna keep that set up since I've learned this car can be difficult....

I have had mone for almost three years and this has never happened to me. I owned a 2003 for four years previous to this one without a single problem. I am curious to what drained your battery as it should have a battery protector (will cut the fuse to save battery if you leave a light on, door open, ect.) and why your key would not turn the locks,

The key should be universal as it will open the car door and start the car in the ignition. I think it also locks the glove box. My Demon and Coronet have the two key system,

Ok, well still no solution to the key problem. Battery was drained I believe from GPS being plugged in the center console. And being that I only drove it once a week for a few minutes each time. So the battery just never fully recharged. I will be going to the dealer I bought it from to find out why the only key they gave me doesn't work in the door. Anyways, roadside assistance with USAA is pretty sweet.

Danny, First of all good evening, you mention sub school Conn, Groton? I am former USN (Airwing though, is that o.k.?) 1. Thank you for your service, and good luck in sub school it is a tough one. 2. What rating?

Back to your problem, you mentioned GPS left plugged in; just out of curiousity, did you leave it plugged into the center console on the dashboard or the plug inside the center console? Based on past experience the center console plug is always hot!! for future reference make sure you dont leave anything plugged in that outlet when the engine is off. It is strange however, that it would drain battery, most devices shutoff before then, but I have left my GPS, MP3, in that outlet live before, fortunately it was short term and no battery drain. The dashboard outlet is to the battery so anything in that outlet SHOULD shutoff with the engine but of course check anyway, I recomend removing power from the outlet not the device.

Magic, good mornin, thanks for the reply. And yes I am in Groton, however no rate for me, my father's been enlisted the last 28 years and said if any of us joined the military we had to commission. So I'm actually going to be an officer on a submarine. But on to the Durango. Yes, it was plugged into the center console, the hidden one that I guess stays on even when you turn the engine off. So no more leaving anything plugged in there. But I still have to find out my door key problem when I get back home. Thanks for all the help.
