Default 5.7L heat gauge goes up very slowly

Hi,i got this 5.7 beautiful durango, it was a bummer when last week i was stock in traffic for about 2 hours and i noticed that in the first hour the gauge was raising pretty slowly, from below half to almost 3/4 in the second hour...then i put it in neutral and hit the pedal for a few seconds then the temp begun to drop to below half marker...

Today i have changed the fan clutch and ran the same test( this time lights on & a/c on).....SAME PROBLEM! (this time check engine when ON and generator failure when on i guess thats another issue)

This is the first time i got a dodge so i dont know how the temp gauge works....shouldnt be always steady?

Could the root of my problem be the radiator?

i will really apreciate your help, im plannig to stay long with this beauty

You can switch to a low temperature thermostat that will open and coolant system earlier to cool the engine,

You may have a t-stat stuck open. This has been a problem on the 5.7 motors as of late.

Thanks guys, let me tell you this....., temp continues raising very slowly till red line when stock in trafic (Driving shift and brakes after 1 hour or so), so the fan is not doing the job or the radiator could be clogged? either or both i have changed the fan cloutch and it sound like a plane about to take off at 2K rpms (still with the heating problem), im thinking an electric fan convertion, but first i need to solve the over heating problem, are you familiar with this slowly over heating issue?

Did they have any idea what caused the radiator to gunk up? Also, do you hear your fan kicking on when the temp is rising?

Mine stays rock steady just below halfway on the gauge. I've never seen it go higher.

Does turning on/off the a/c make a difference?

they said the coolant was not changed in a long time and it caused the clogging, i heard fan clutch getting engage at a little more than half marker, the it went down and so on...

now the temp is steady just like yours, below half i'm happy about it, but im planning to do an electrical fan convertion, i already have the parts, i think is gonna be quieter and it could save you up to 10% gas

thankyou, im new with durangos so may be i will have to ask you something later...
