Question Thud sound in rear of vehicle when slowing down

My Durango has 47,718 miles and it is making a sound like a thud...it feels like i have hit a bump in the road when it does this and it sounds like it is coming from the rear. It happens when I am slowing down from speeds above 35 mph or so, it does'nt happen all the time though.
It happened once right after we bought it, I took it in to the dealer and they said that they had to make some kind of adjustment to the transmission...but it stopped after that till now.
The vehicle is out of warranty so I am hoping I can fix it myself, with your help.

Thanks

Until I read the transmission fix part I would have thought it was a loose spare tire. Still might be.

Go back to the previous dealer, have them bring up the service history and have them tell you what fix they did last time. Then, repeat said fix.

If the problem is exact, and they fixed it last time, should be this easy. Once done, find out why-the-frack the fix didn't last longer than the interval from the first repair until now.

Thanks, I was hoping it would be that easy but the tire is pretty tight under there.

I think that is the best thing to do, I'll take it back to the dealer a/s/a/p.
