Default Temp guage

I have an '04 2wd w/ 4.7 and 85k miles. I've been having issues with it seeming to run a little hotter than I would like. The needle on temp guage spends most of its time in the upper half, which I'm just not used to seeing in any of my previous vehicles. I thought that perhaps the thermostat was starting to get hung up, so I changed it and "burped" the system. It's running exactly where it was before. The fan clutch kicks in like it should, and there are no leaks. So I guess my question is, is this just where they run? I know factory guages aren't the greatest (especially with no numbers), I just don't want to see this thing blow up. I have an '89 Ram with a 318 and atleast 125k miles, it has a thermostat, and even with the a/c on the guage doesn't move much past C and the fan clutch never kicks in.
