04 Durango 5.7 Shifting Hard into 3rd gear.
I have an 04 Durango Limited 5.7. I have had problems with the transmission for a while At around 45,000 I took it to the Dealer. They told me this was normal. It is shifting hard into third and making a thud sound. I took it back around 65,000 and they still told me this was normal. After they took it out for a test ride and wrecked it. Which really upset us. They didn't want to get us a rental and did a very poor job on the repairs. Now it has gotten worse. It slips for a brief second and hits 3rd gear hard. The local Dodge stealership is now out of business and my warranty is out of date. I guess I'm stuck paying for the repairs. I'm sure a transmission place will cost me a fortune. All they ever seem to want to do is replace or rebuild them.

How long ago was this?
Two things come to mind right away.
If the dealers employee was at fault for the crash, they darned sure owed you a rental.
Also, you have a documented history of complaints for this issue which any dealer should be able to access in their system.
I think I would consult an attorney, and see about recovering damages for the shoddy way they handled this.
Although I am no fan of lawyers, this is an instance where they might be just what you need to work towards being made whole.
How bad was the damage, and was the employee cited by police?

They ended up getting us a rental after we spoke with the Manager. They had all the damaged parts removed before they even called us. When I got the call I was there with in 30 min. They wouldn't give us any information about who had the wreck. I went to pick it up and they bumper was misaligned. After they fixed that the bumper had a gap big enough to place almost three figures in between. They said they couldn't fix that. They finally did though. They never did anything to the Transmission though. It is really bad now. Bad enough for our 14 year old son to ask what is that when he feels it.

Sorry for the delayed response.
I personally would have a HUGE issue with anyone exposing me to liability by involving a motor vehicle owned by me in a crash.
The fact that they are refusing to provide info stinks to high heaven.
Here in Ohio, a Traffic Crash Report is a public record, and if there are injuries and/or damage exceeding $400, it is a crime to not file a report if the crash occurred on a public roadway.
Sounds to me like you should have an attorney involved to make sure they provide the information you are entitled to as well as helping push for assistance with the tranny issues.
You don't need a suit of some kind smacking you in the face down the road just because you own the vehicle and did not have the chance to make sure things are properly resolved.
If you have a good auto insurance company, they might get behind you as well on this without any penalty to you.

I would call 1-800-992-1997 and talk to customer service, on how the dealers kept telling you the transmision was normal.Did they even ck for flash updates or write down the CVI specs. If you tell them how displeased you are, maybe they will split the price of the transmission repair. Can not hurt to try.
