Default Anyone Familiar with Front Suspensions

Here's the quick version: Bought the 06 4.7 2wd at 45k. It rode way better then I thought for a big suv. Fast forward about 20k and it didnt ride so good anymore. It seemed like every bump was literally pounding the cab in the front. I looked under it and oil was coming from both the front shocks. They were blown out. So I replaced them. The ride was back good again. I figured that would solve it. Fast forward another 10-20k and the ride is back rough again. Bumps literally make the whole cab shake. Shocks are not blown out. So I go to change the oil and find this: LCA literally 1/8" off the bumpstop. You can tell by the pic its been pounding it. So, do I cut off the bumpstop or is this a torsen bar issue? Last pic shows the front wheel gap. This look normal?

Yes that looks normal. On my 2000, it touches AS NORMAL.

Bumpstops touch? This is not normal on any car I have ever owned. Its not pleasing over bumps either.

Then you obviously haven't seen a 2000 Durango's bump stops in stock position.

PLUS... those above are not touching.

Thats why there is a huge shiny spot where its been banging the lower control arm. Im sure this is the way dodge intended it. It should ride around beating the bumpstops all the time bc there is only 1/4 inch of suspension travel. Yeah right.

The spot shows you it has been working. If you don't like the answer, don't ask the question. For what you paid for the answer, you got your monies worth. Now time to spend real dough at the shop for the same results.

Sorry no one else bothered to jump in to help you. On second thought, na. With that attitude I could care less.

01ssreda4, none on this site are professionals that get paid for answering every imagineable question. We are volunteers that try to help even if that may be not suited to your tastes. If you want further help I would suggest a little patience without attitiude as this section is not as large as the Ram sections. A shop in Texas will charge you $70.00 per hour to assess your problem if you prefer,

I dont take my cars to "mechanics." I am the mechanic. My approach about this problem was that the fact that maybe their was something I was missing. I am not familiar with torsen bar suspensions so thats the only reason I posted. I had the problem dealt with and had taken a test drive before you chimed in with "its normal to only have 1/4 inch suspension travel and ride on your bumpstops" Anyone who gives out advice like that, doesn't deserve to be giving out advice.

You can twist the torsion bars to lower the ride if that will help your problem. Every twist will lower the vehicle 1/4". Also, what brand of shocks did you install? I would suggest KYB or Biltsteins and hopefully that will rectify your problem. You can also go to www.p-s-t.cm and order new front end polygrahite bushings and see if that improves the ride. I have my Durango for over three years (I had a first generation for four years before this one) and I changed my shocks at 30,000 miles even though the old ones were still in good condition,

I am a dodge mechanic or tech and other members are right. The front is working the way it was designed too. Didn't your durango have goodyear wrangler tires p235/70r17. Because changing tire sizes will change the front end too.
