I am new here so I have not had a lot of time to search the threads for this issue. My wife has a 2005 Durango 4x4, I think 4.7. The engine revs up and down at stops, the rpms jump from 2 to 3 rpms while driving down the road, shifting is rough slowing and starting up, sometimes the engine dies at stops, and the engine stalled on her the other day. I thought it was the transmission but I took it to my transmission guy and he said a TPS sensor code was the fault. He did not know much about this so he referred me to a mechanic. I can't get in to see him until next week. Does it sound like I need a new TPS sensor? If so, is it easy to install?

I would guess an hour to replace plus $30.00 for the part,

I went to the mechanic. He said I had a stored TPS sensor code (P0068). He reset it and drove it. He said it drove perfectly and to bring it back if it starts messing up again. Does this sound legit?

 

sure, if the connection was loose or dirty weird things happen, if it comes back quickly that means there is a problem and it was not a fluke, if it stays off for a long while and comes back on id repeat the procedure.

however shops usually wont tell you that, they will just replace the part and charge you for it
