Default p0443 trouble code help please

Whats happening guys - Ive got a p0443 evap code (gascap error on odometer) - driving me nuts - Have had it to an indy and a dealer - both replaced the fuel caps - cleared code and it comes back within 100 miles. They both even went as far to tell me im not putting the cap on correctly! really? uh no.

Saw some generic troubleshooting online that suggests this code can be related to a purge solenoid, but then cant find any info on where the purge solenoid is on our genration durangos or even if we have

any help much appreciated!

If not the gas cap then you need to start tracing the vac lines starting at the charcoal canister inside the frame under the drivers seat. There's a u-shaped hose at the canister that has a bad habit of cracking. If the hose looks OK, check the vac line running up into the engine bay to and from the purge soleniod. Depending on your year model, the purge soleniod is on the firewall between the intake manifold and the brake booster on the '00 and prior year models. In '01, they moved it to the drivers side between the PDC and the battery.

wow - i feel dumb for even posting but not as dumb as the THREE shops my wife took this too in the first place!

located what I beleive is the purge solenoid (mines an 07 btw - but its still right next to the brake booster??)

anyhow - the lead supplying power to the solenoid was disconnected and tucked back under the harness - not the most obvious but just looking at the thing for a second you would realize this! Wondering if the local indy AND dealer were hoping to scam my ol lady!? Almost want to unplug again and take it back to them and let them telll me its a $500 problem.

Plugged it back in and Engine Code and GASCAP indicators still both displayed (but I recall this could take some driving to clear)

Went for a ride - the Engine code cleared in about 3 miles but the GASCAP is still displaying on the odometer - could this still just require the evap system to run a test or something else?

remember this has already had 3 cap replacements - and i know the cap is seated properly and securely tightened. Dont wanna go down that road again.

Try resetting your PCM by disconnecting the negative battery terminal for 1-2 minutes and see if it clears. If it does, hopefully it won't come back.

seems to have done the trick - cleared with a Bat disconnect - hopefully it will run through the next system test with flying colors - lets hope anyways - thanks for guidance BW!

Engine Light came back on for the wife today - its now indicating a P0440 Evap Sys Perf - not the p0443 that i had prior.

This one is a little more vague - any idea what Evap Sys Perf means?

Woindering if I should try to replace the Purge Solenoid, but hate to throw money away that I aint got.

Basically, the same results as a P0443 really.

Possible causes:
The purge solenoid has failed
The canister is plugged and not working properly

Possible Solutions
Inspect the EVAP system for cuts/holes in tubes/hoses
Inspect for damaged or disconnected hoses around the Evap purge solenoid
Check and/or replace the sensor
Check and/or replace the purge valve
Have a professional use a smoke machine to detect leaks
