OK still looking for the fix on the locking into 4wd problem after getting the svc 4wd warning light. Anyone out there have a fix. The original thread dated back to 2011 - cant believe nothing has been done in last 6 years.

A quick search turned up two possible solutions.

First: Check your tire pressures. A low tire will fool the system into thinking you are driving on slick surfaces, so, it will try and engage 4x4.

Second: If the first on ain't it, time to replace the shift motor on the t-case.

December 2011 I had the same problem with my Dodge Durango 2005 Hemi. I installed the TCM controller (under the car) and it resolved the problem of switching into 4wd low while parked, started, not started, and while driving, for about 7 months then it started all over again. I replaced the TCM again with another rebuilt and have been running great for the past 6 years. Found the part at a local auto parts store. Good Luck

I posted an answer to your question. I fixed my 4wd low issue about 6 years ago.

I had this problem recently, had to replace the shift motor, seems to be a common problem for the Gen 2. It's a real pain in the *** but DIY doable.

Hello with the iaaue a lot of us are having with 2004 Dodge durango 5,7 hemi AWD .With the transfer case going into 4x4 high & 4x4 low on its own .This issue i have been on & off trying to figure the nigh mare out . But so far no luck .But i have noticed that since this started that when i try switching the transfer case dash switch into ant mode that no light come on like they always have in the cluster . SAying you are in 4x4 high or 4x4 low .I was reading in the manual that those lights have to come on when you shift TCS on the dash . So can anyone please tell why they do not come on now & of course i have TCM out & still can not make the TCM make any noise or shift .I so much want to get it back on the road it s not been driven i think since june 2020 when my wife backed up went from AWD to 4x4 high .Please help if you know .Thank you .

Thumbs up

I want to Thank everyone for there help in getting my 2004 dodge durango 5.7 hemi AWD issue .The AWD went into 4x4 high on its own and locked it in 4x4 .I could not not get it out . I looked for over 6 months when i had time to look for maybe bad grounds ,Bad wires ,Shorts ,Never found anything .Tell i took the front contro; module off the by removing the 4 screws & unplug the 4 elec plugs and looking close to it . And found 2 burned spots on the FCM where the 2 small plugs plug into .So i replaced the FCM & made sure all the letters & numbers matched . But still would not fix it . So i finally found the right TCSM and that was not eazy .Mine was a D model . The only place i found one at was Carparts .com ,INC they had one for like $170.00 .I put it in & so far no issue with the AWD . But only issue i am having is .The SVC 4 wheel drive light is still on .I had my buddy reset it with his $4000 snap on obd but when i backed up it came back on So he reset it again came back on .The Code it gave me was C1405 OBD 2 . I read a bit on that code but have not had time to check it out yet .There saying C stands for OBD2 Diagnostic chassis , 1 stands for Fuel & air Metering , And 0 stands for Cold start injector 1 Malfunction , 5 stands for Crankshaft position sensor B circuit Malfunction . Saying to check wiring harness next to intake manifold Bracket for bad wires .also check 02 sensor heater circuit , or most likely a Dirty MAF sensor . Well my question is this i do not see that 2004 Dodge durango 5.7 hemi having a MAF sensor . So anyone have a answer on this please .Thank u .

When you say you have the D model, do you mean the 244 D?? I have an 06 durango AWD hemi 5.7 with the 244D transfer case and I am about to change the transfer case shift motor. I havent looked for one yet. Not sure which one I need. Mine is doing the shifting thing so I unplugged it and it drives fine in AWD but the 4x4 lock is disabled until I reconnect it.

yes my durango 2004 has a Transfer case NV 244 Gen 11. The 2 number stands for Gears you have . The 4 number stands for size .And the other 4 number stands for Type of transfer case u have . Not sure what the D stands for it might mean Dodge or Durango or Drive . But i had a hard time finding a shift motor but finally did after looking 6 months when i had time .I found one at Car parts .com My part number was 83303 It was pretty cheap like $170.00 .I installed it and everything works great once again .You may have to have to have your car taken to dealer if u have that SVC 4x4 dash light on its like $100 to have dealer reset it . Also important to you must have your old shift motor out .And jack all 4 wheels up and on jack stands & turn key to just on not running And you can get the transfer case back into AWD potion with a pair of # 8 vise grips . All new transfer shift motors come in AWD potion from factory . So any questions let me and hope this helps you out .William
