As Indy stated, your D is equipped with an AWD T case. Might I inquire as to why you would want to make the switch to part time?
If the reason is fuel economy, it has been proven over and over that mpg is affected 1-2 mpg at the most between the part time and AWD systems.
I swapped out the NV233 in my 01 Durango for the AWD 244 case, and on average the mpg drop was 1 mpg or less.
To properly make the change, you would need to install a part time case which was the NV233 for the Gen 1 Durangos.
The T case in your Gen 2 is the NV244.
If you really want RWD for a temporary period, you can do this by removing your front driveshaft and putting the dash switch to the 4lock position.

It might help to know WHY you want to do this? As already stated, MPG gain will be little if any. Part time 4 wheel drive was not a factory options for the Gen 2 D.
If you are wanting to be able to enjoy some rear wheel drive fun, this can be done but we do not know what the long term effects may be.
