fuel pump relay and pcm

fuel pump relay and pcm
does anybody know how the pcm is controling the fuel pump relay, i know the pcm is using a ground output to control the coil of the relay but what i need to know is whats happening inside the program, what all has to happen before the pcm sends the output to the relay
