Rear Mounted Turbo System... Would You Buy?
If you could get a rear mounted turbo system from one of our fine vendors using STS's patend design for your 5.7 Hemi Durango, would you?

The rear mount turbo systems were developed by STS. Here is an example of one we helped set-up on an 87 Porsche 928.

We are only limited by the vehicles we have access to. bring or have someone bring us a car and we can fabricate pretty much anything.

Some skeptics would say no. But, being one of those skeptics myself before working on the Porsche, I am now on the other side of the fence. There is plenty of power to be had from a rear mounted system without the lag the other guys will mention.
It's a great system, but is it something anyone here would want? I have to say I doubt it considering the very little response i have had to the cold air kit.
With our Durango I may drive it a couple times per month and I know my wife couldn't care less about what's under the hood or how much power it has.
Oh well..

Hello Dodgegirl19,
How much horsepower gain are we looking at and how much boost will this turbo be running? What will it take to modify all the plumbing underneath and in the engine compartment? The Exhaust system will have to be modified to increase airflow right? It looks quite exotic will this setup hold up to real world road conditions or more for a show & tell?

I would probably go for a supercharger before a turbo - less problems with underhood heat, less need for an intercooler, and immediate throttle response. I've seen some nice Vortec superchargers on Chevys and Fords, but I don't think anyone has put out a 5.7 Hemi supercharger kit yet... Yet... Maybe soon!!
