2007 Durango Quarter panel Replacement
Going to replace a left quarter panel (drivers) on a 2007 model. This is a State Farm Insurance job. Does anyone know the proper procedure from Chrysler on what is an acceptable splice on this quarter replacement? Just to be safe, maybe i should just go and replace the entire panel. I'm thinking in the long run, probably better to replace the whole thing.
MM:
Are you talking front or rear quarter panel? If front, replacing the whole panel is the way to go.
The rear panel are usually repaired or patched unless they are damaged beyond a point of no return as this repair is labor intensive and requires welding.
If this repair due to damage or rust?
I hope you are a customer of State Farm and not someone that their insured hit. I would not insure my dog with them!

My understanding is that if you are their customer, SF will treat you pretty well.
On the other hand, we had a very unpleasant experience with them a few years ago when an insured of theirs backed into my wife as she was driving away from her vehicle.
The insured even stated at the scene that SHE backed into my wife. The SF rep told me that "when you are in a parking aisle, you OWN it both backwards and forwards."
I disagreed stating if the vehicle in question is moving forward, then other vehicles exiting nearby spaces must yield. Things are totally different though if the vehicle in question now decides to back up.
The amount of damage was under $1000, but they fought it like it was a million dollar claim.
Eventually, our insurance (Central) fixed our van and then took SF to arbitration and won.
The SF rep had the gall to call me on my cell while I was out of town on vacation, and argue this thing. She ended the call by stating that SF does not always agree when their insured takes responsibility at the scene.
I do not care for Grange either. We have been with Central since Grange tried to mess with us, and could not be happier.

The insurance company is State Farm, and they have paid every penny with no problems. I am replacing a rear quarter panel. I guess i should have been more descriptive, as I call the front quarter panel a fender. I was only asking if it is acceptable to do a splice and butt weld on the quarter panel along with using structural adhesive. This is the recommended procedure from Chrysler (as i just found this out today). I personally have dealt with State Farm on many repairs, and in my opinion, they are the best to deal with. I am sorry to hear you had such a run in with them. Apparently, they saw the situation differently. Glad you got it all straightened out.

Sounds like you have gotten great service from SF. Since you are their customer, I agree that you should expect that.
I was merely sharing my experience as someone on the other end of their business. While I respect their right to investigate a claim, right is right and wrong is wrong.
In Ohio anyway, when a vehicle is in reverse, state law dictates that such a vehicle must make reasonable efforts to insure that nothing is or moves behind it to strike.
For an unknown reason, SF chose to discredit their own insured as well as royally tick me off such that I would never consider using their services.
No offense inferred or intended either way. Don
