Default 04 5.7 hemi / electrical issues HELP!!!

Hello everyone, I'm new to this sit but heard it's very helpful. I have a 2004 Durango 5.7 Hemi. First when it rains and only when it rains after I start it up 5 minutes later the trucks idle gets ruff and feels like its going to shut off like something is getting wet. Second my wife was driving it last night and a little red light in the upper right hand corner started to flash 4x with a pause in between. Not sure what to do. Can someone with better knowledge help me out. Thanks for your help in advance.

Boyd:

Welcome to the Forum!

Sounds like you might be a victim of the famous leaking wiper cowl.
You can make a quick test by opening up your hood, and using a garden hose on low pressure to put water on the windshield.

During this process, if you see water running down onto the engine you have the cowl leak.

I understand there is an updated part number to install that will cure the issue. You could also possibly silicone or RTV the original to fix it.

In any case, the engine does not like a bath from above so check into this.

There are a few threads in this section about this problem as n8ech stated.

Thanks for your help. is that also the cause of the little red light that flashes in the cluster on the upper right hand side?

What does the light look like? Is it a symbol of some kind, or just a red round light?

N8ech... Thanks for the help. Sorry it took so long to respond. Its just a small red light that flashes every so often. Not on the regular but being that the wife drives this vehicle It has to be running perfect and not leave her stuck on the road. If i was disconnect the terminal would that clear it or would i have to hook up a scanner to it?

That sounds like the light tied to the anti theft system. I believe the light will come on if the system does not recognize the key in use.

The only time I have seen this light on other than a bulb check at start up was when I was trying to program an extra key that did not work.

As soon as the system decided the key was foreign, this light came on and the engine shuts off.

As long as the D is running ok and not stalling, you should be ok.

As a good measure, how old is your battery? If more than 4 years old, I would replace it on principle especially if it comes back flaky under a proper load test.

Our Durangos are very sensitive to an aged or failing battery.
