How many miles is a 4.7 in an 05 durango good for?
I just bought a FULLY LOADED 05 durango for a steal... One owner 80% highway miles in MINT MINT condition... BUT it has 140,000 miles on it... It runs like a champ.. shifts like a champ... But I have never bought a used car before and never owned anything over 50,000 before I traded it...
140,000 scares me.. How miles are people getting out of their durango's?

I've never seen a 4.7 get over 160.000, Miles..Mileage on those motors depend on a load of things..Drivers foot through the years , Oil quality , how often it was changed , did the owner pull trailers , Etc...Etc....
Did you say It dropped a valve ? There's you're answer 140.000. That's about right for those motors.
."It's only my opinion"~BUT I think the 4.7 is the worst motor Dodge ever put in a truck..It's a good design , and would work , but they didn't make the oil ports big enough , so they don't get a good oil flow inside..Most people don't know the oil weight difference and use 10w30 in them so they gum up..The only good thing about a nice truck with a 4.7 is the fact that there not hard to find with a bad motor , and a Hemi swap ain't that hard.. I'm driving a Ram Hemi Thanks to the 4.7 going bad at 144.000 miles..
Sorry to hear about you're truck Hammer ~ You gonna put a Hemi in it ?

Dodge Might Have improved the 07' ~ 12' If they did , it was long over due , the 01'~05' don't last.. I don't understand why Dodge put the Hemi in Durango's BUT didn't make it optional for the Dakota Quad Cab.. It would have been a big seller..It might have even effected the Ram sales...That would have been a Bad *** Truck for sure...

Hey all, was browsing around for info my wife's 2007 Durango. Not sure if it's the same motor, but my 2003 Dakota 4x4 quadcab still gets factory mpg with 177,000 miles on it. I believe if you take care of it like me (I am crazy about maintenance), you should get 250,000 out it. Every vehicle I have owned since the early eighty's has gotten 200,000 or more. Just my 2 cents.

I think a lot of people think 10w30 is a good for all cars motor oil and people put it in every car or truck they buy. It was the oil for many years.. The reason I say this , I bought a 2001 Dakota Quad cab that kept loosing oil pressure . I took the valve covers off and I couldn't find the valve springs.. It looked like someone melted black candles in it for years.. It was so thick I had to scrape it out with a screw driver..I asked the man I bought it from what kind of oil he used. He said , he always took it to a Quick lube. I went to quick lube and they use Havaline 10w30 in EVERYTHING..I showed him the motor "BUT this guy still takes his brand new Toyota there , That's a lazy man...
