4WD will not Disengage on 2007 SLT
Hello Everyone,
I was driving today and we are having some really hard rain and a lot of water on the that was causing my tires to slip (hydro plain) so I decided to pull over and engage the 4WD. Well after I got closer to my destination, I pulled over again and disengaged the 4WD but it did not. I had to drive the rest of the way to my destination and back to my house, hoping that it would eventually disengage on the way back (trying multiple times).
Does any one know of a way that I get my Durango to diengage 4WD with out having to pay an arm and leg to get it fixed. I need my car since its the only one I have right now. PLEASE HELP ASAP..
Thank you

Yes I do have the option to put it in AWD.
My Durango automatically has Smart AWD with the option of 4WD Lock. I switched it to 4WD lock after I pulled over and stopped the car, then when I got closer to my destination and out of the danger of water puddles, I switched it back to standard 4WD, but right now my car will not disengage the 4WD lock (even though the light goes off) and my tires spin if I try to make sharp turns. Do you know anything about this?

Also can some one also inform of what type of damage my car can get if I can not get this fix anytime soon? because this is the only vehicle I have and I have a child that has special needs and it is the only transportation he has to the doctors appointments.
Please and Thank you.

the first thing is never try the procedure given in manual, to lock the 4wd. always stop put it in Neutral(N) then engage the 4wd Hi/Low. then put in Drive. never drive with 4wd Hi/Low on road, it can damage the 4wd.
for now to disengage, you just park the car in Neutral(N) not in park, move it to low & once low engaged put in drive & move a bit. just 1 feet or less, stop put it back to neutral & then move directly into AWD. it should be disengaged. if this does not work
use the procedure in manual to neutralize the transmission using the small button near 4wd ****. if all does not work, toe your vehicle immidiatly to dealer to disengage. DO NOT DRIVE WITH 4WD.
Prayers for your child. INSHALLAH will improve soon

I have driven in 4lock at 75 miles per for 10 miles a my wife used my Durango and forgot to switch it back to AWD. This happened atleast twice and no damage was done. I do not knop if your 4wd is the same as my 4lock. Does your selector switch say 4lock and 4lo?
I would try to unplug the connector at the transfer case and inspect it for any water inside the connector. If there is water in the connector, dry it out and plug it back in.
