Quick trans question
Does 5-45RFE trans require a new spin on filter as well as the usual sump filter and gasket?
I am just about to order a service kit, to do the job, but not sure if my transmission has a spin on filter, it's just a normal 2005 RWD Hemi .
And how do you know if you have a deep or shallow pan?
Thanks

Someone has mentioned that the deep pan is on 4X4 Durango's, does anyone know if that's true?
Anyone got any info on the spin on/off filter and whether is worth changing at the same time

Challenger:
Your 545RFE trans has 2 filters. The sump filter AND the mini canister return filter.
Both are located inside the trans pan.
Autozone has the Duralast TF98 filter kit that supplies both filters for $14!
Change them both and be sure to go back in with a good grade of ATF+4 trans fluid.

Thanks Don,
Ho Hum!!! Thanks again. Why do Chrysler/Dodge have to complicate the issue when surely the production of a deep pan to cover all applications would have been sufficient and easier for all concerned.
Going to have to try and dig deeper before ordering, as they are expensive in the UK. Bearing in mind the cheapest i have been quoted for just the flat filter and gasket is £40, but have been asked the dreaded question, deep or shallow pan.
There must be some kind of measurement you can physically take of the pan to make sure you get the right on

I measured the deepest part of my trans pan this morning, and the driver's side towards the front was between 2.25 and 2.5 inches tall.
As you will see, this pan is large and requires a large catch pan when doing a fluid/filter service.
Hope this helps you.............................

Thanks,
I'll check the measurement on mine today, in theory it should be shallower than yours.
Being not up to date on our model range, does the Durango come in RWD, and AWD, and 4X4, or just the first 2 options.
