Default Engine Vin number

Ok, heres my question. I have an 04 hemi Durango that needed a tune up. I replaced wires plugs and PCV valve. Here's my issue. When I went to buy my PCV valve nobody carried the correct one, but if I found the 04 dodge ram 1500 hemi PCV valve worked? So, now is it possible for me to have a Ram 1500 hemi in my Durango? I did buy it used several years ago. I was able locate both my vin and engine vin but cannot make sense of it or find any information about it. This is where I need someones help. Anyone?

Maybe I am wrong and some of you with the 04 Durango's have the twist PCV valve, rather than the hose connection PCV valve? Can anyone clarify?

Also, does anyone know where the engine Vin number is and how to read it??
I found mine( I think it is?) on the drivers side valve cover on a sticker.

i think ill get this right. the 318-360 line has the engine no along above the oil pan on the engine casting. i think. the body VIN has a code that shows the engine installed from the factory. a good auto shop can tell you which engine you have. you are right the engine could have been changed.

Thanks Moe7404,
I tried but could not find any numbers near the oil pan. I am trying to find out what if any engine/parts difference there would be between the Ram 5.7 and the durangos 5.7, so far I can't find any info. One thread suggests the exhaust is different but doesn't go into detail as how. Also someone suggested that the intakes are different, but again don't know why and how do I tell? Anyone know?

Mich:
My 04 Durango also has the twist in PCV valve that twists into the intake.
How many miles on your D?
What plugs wires did you go back in with?

n8ech,

I have 108,000 miles on it. The reason I brought this up is that I could not find a PCV for my Durango that was the right one until I got a PCV for an 04 Ram 1500 hemi. Maybe some get the twist and some do not I just don't know. If yours is a twist on one as well suggest I am not the only one. I was just curious if the dealer I bought it from switched engines on the Durango without letting me know.

Sorry forgot to mention I put back in the same plugs..Champion RE14MCC4's. I did not replace the wires as they seemed good. My Durango really needed the plugs were way over due and seems to have better throttle response. Hopefully a little better MPG's.

I believe the Hemi in the Grand Cherokees also has the twist PCV as a friend of mine on another forum says his 07 JGC has it also.

Regarding your 04, it is VERY possible that the engine has been replaced as a number of the 04 Hemi engines died an early death due to bad valve springs that collapsed allowing the valve to drop into the cylinder.

My 04 D is on Hemi #2 courtesy of a dropped valve at 39K.
The work was done by a dealer under the 7/70 powertrain warranty though so I have to think they would have put the same style engine back in.

I too am an OEM plug kinda guy. That is what will go back into mine when the odo hits 89K which will be 50K on these plugs.
You cannot beat $2 a plug at AZ when you need 16 of them. What kind of gaps did they have at 108K? Do you think those were OEM?
My wires have an 03 date code so they must have brought them over from the original engine.
Since they live in a rather hot, harsh environment under the hood, I will probably replace them with the plugs.

Don

Wow, good question, I will have to look at my wires as they haven't been replaced by me since I have owned my Durango going on 3 years. My plugs came out with some at .60 and above gap. Not good. So, you're saying its possible my engine now has been replaced? If so, how can I tell what year and for what vehicle it was made for? Thx.
