Default timing?

Got a Hemi durango a couple weeks ago from my wife, she always took care of it & drove easy. Now at about 85,000 I think the timing chain went. I was on the hi-way near home & it started clattering then made a tinny slapping sound. I got off the hi-way & eased it home slowly [about 1/2 mile]. I left it idling popped the hood to look & listen. Nothing visable externally & the noise seems to be up front.
Does that sound like the chain? Will I be looking at more damage for not shutting it down then & there? My thought being judging by the noise it already happened if so. How big a job is that & is there a better than factory chain kit available? Thanks
