Default 06 4.7 Durango slt revving on its own

Lately I started to notice every now again not everyday when I start the car put it in park or at a red light it revs up on its own then idles down revs up idles down to about maybe 1600 1700 rpm could this be a dirty throttle body.

Throttle position sensor...buy a new one, its a common 4.7 problem. My sisters went out on her Durango 3x in 2 years. That will fix the issue.

I believe it is on the side of the throttle body.

DrivingDurangorous,

I'm sorry to hear about your idling issues. In some cases, an erratic idle can be caused by low transmission fluid. Have you had an opportunity to check and/or top off your fluids?

In some cases probably but that's more like a 1 out of a 50,000 chance if not higher, plus if it was that you'll more than likely hear the transmission pump whining at the same time the idle problems are happening but the symptoms described in this thread scream classic TPS failure.

To the thread starter, please change the damn TPS already instead of checking fluids....waste of time putting this off any longer, spend the $30 on the tps and enjoy your Durango again!.
