Hello Y'all, I just put oversize tires 285/70/R17 on stock 17" alum. wheels on our 04 Durango LTD 4x4 AWD . I also replaced w/stock front upper control arms & shocks all the way around
I leveled to front to same height as rear by turning up the torsion bars 1.5"ea It runs & drives great !!! , no rubbing. I MUST GET FRONT END ALIGNED NOW
I just painted the wheels, is the alignment guy gonna scratch them up? even the stock tires 265/65/R17 stuck out over the rim bead. so how do they put the machine on the wheel?? any links or Videos would be helpful before I look for a good shop to align thank you for your responses !
alignment heads can mount on the tires or rims. ask the shop which head they have...you need a shop with a tire mount design. new hunter machines or hofman machines use the tire mount.

Hey thats good news thank you! I'm in a small town in WV. so I gotta make some calls see who has that Tire set up . I would of never known that. thank you Sir!!
It appears nobody in my town has a tire mount head. SO now that the front end is level to the back end, what if I put the old original wheels & tires 265/60/R17 back on & then had it aligned (i don't care if they scuff up the OE wheels a bit) then put the new wheels & tires 285/70/R17 back on . In theroy this should be all the same RIGHT??
The stock wheels & tires that came off of vehicle are perfect. low miles on them . i'm gonna sell them . there the chrome plastic covered alum.17" wheel.(LTD) perfect tread ware & all, there nice . we just went bigger tire the OE tires are 30" The new mud tire is 32.7" (33"s - 2" taller & 1/2"wider in a 70 series) both tires bulge out over the bead lip stock & oversize. I would assume it would need a TIRE MOUNT alignment head regardless. Not much of a lip here are some photos as asked. stock tire & wheel
they could mark those rims. put on the other set.
make sure they provide you with an alignment printout. inspect your treadwear pattern for irregular wear at every oil change. you want to catch bad alignment results early before they toe wear expensive tires.
Thank you for looking. I'm trying to find a "tire mount" alignment shop out of town from me asap I'll probably give up & put the old ones back on & get it set . but im a try to do new ones 1st
