'04 Durango Hemi Engine Vibration
I have had my 04 Durango for over 800 miles. I have noticed that during light acceleration, ESPECIALLY, when cold, there is a slight vibration or resonance coming from the engine compartment. Any Ideas or information on this? I seem to remember reading something about this but breezed over it because it didn't concern me at the time.
How 'cold' are you talking about? There is something in the manual that mentions the trans sounding, feeling slightly stiff/loud when cold and not to worry. I can't remember the exact wording or where in the manual it was, sorry.
no, it sounds like a vibration but I don't feel anything. It is very dificult to describe...It really only happens at 1500 to 2000 RPM. And by cold I mean cold start, it has been in the upper 60's and 70 here in Portland so it's not like I am trying to start it during a Detroit winter.
i have the same thing i think it is a resonense in the exauhst as things r warming up.it may be the transmission as it dosent matter how i warm the moter up i still hear it when i first drive so it may very well be the transmission. on a good note if it is something in the moter or transmission it will get worse fast as things like this that r signs of a moter or trans problem usually dont last very long till they blow and u will still be under warrenty

that resonance is the exhaust, sounds like its coming from the engine, if i remember dodge is supposed to fix this somehow i forget, think its something with the cats or some part of the exhaust to make it quiter, but i kinda like the sound
When I test drove my new Hemi, I immediately noticed the vibration at 1800 rpm. It is quite noticable. I drove 2 other Hemi's and found they were identical, so I figured it is a common thing with the Durango Hemi. I think it is an exhaust vibration, caused by resonance.
I plan to put a Masterflow muffler on, and eliminate the resonator in order to get a little more growl. I also hope this will eliminate the resonance. If this doesn't cure it, I'll try a K&N filter.
By the way, I now have 2,750 miles on my 'Dango after 5 weeks. I used it to tow my Cherokee on a flat bed down to Portland from here in Spokane the second week I owned it. Naturally, I took it easy on it, and let it putt on the hills. It never even noticed the 5,500 pound load behind it. Needless to say, I love the truck... even if it does have a vibration at 1,800 under light throttle load.

I have the same issue with my '04. I am told that the exhaust hangers need to be replaced. This is causing the vibration and harmonics I'm having at low speeds, especially when the engine is just warming up.
