Default NOISE WHEN REAR WINDOWS OPEN

Is it just my 04 Durango that makes an awful drumming noise when the rear windows are open. Its so bad that it shakes the hell out of the front doors. Will putting window wind, rain deflectors help.

One thing you guys might want to try is leave the front windows all the way down and only open the rears 1/4 of the way. I have run my D on the freeway with the windows all the way down, only fronts down, and the fronts down and backs 1/4 of the way down and that works the best for the wind. I hope that can work for you since mine is a different body style altogether.

I usually just leave the windows up and let the climate control do its job.. Then I can crank the tunes and cruise along..

Yeah I know but I like having the windows down in my D. Sometimes it is just too stuffy to have them up...

Oh yeah. That noise is fierce!

The Durango isn't the only vehicle to do this. I've rented many cars in my travels, and several have this "issue". Just crack the front window a bit to allow some air to flow in and then, most importantly, OUT the rear. It would be nice if the rear cargo area windows could be vented, like the Caravan, or the rear window roll down, like the Toyota 4 Runner.

You'd probably find it would occur in most any SUV if you only roll down the second-row windows. It occured in my '01 Durango even with the ventvisors. As has been mentioned, as long as the front windows are opened even an inch or so, that odd turbulence effect will be gone.

i never had this in my 1997 jeep grand cherokee. i used to drive around with the rear windows only open all the time. it is so bad in my 04 durango now, (new to me) that 1 week after i bought it i seriously considered getting rid of it. I have now heard of this problem in 4 runners, and crv's as well.

I just finally figured out exactly what you're talking about... I made the mistake of opening only the rear windows in my D on the freeway one day (don't try this at home LOL) the pressure was so bad in the front that it hurt my ears. It was almost like swimming deep into a pool. (Mind you my ears are weak I can hardly stand being more than 10 feet underwater in a pool). I guess I'm not that picky about cars though it made no difference to me I just rolled down the front windows. [8D]

i understand what you are saying, my ears really hurt as well. I literally almost traded in the truck after having it for only 1 week.
