Default No start

Well a couple days ago my girlfriends 2000 Intrepid ES with the 3.2L Automatic with 141,000 just up and died on her while she was driving and would not start again. Well today I took a day off of work to try and figure this car out. Well I checked the fuel pump, still getting fuel, checked timing belt thats good, seems like I'm getting spark because it seems like it want's to start but doesn't want to fire. Turn the key the CEL light doesn't stay on long. I'm just really scratching my head on this one, spark plugs only have about 2,000 on them maybe more. Does anyone have any idea as to what it could be? Any and all help would be very helpful.

Try and unplug the map sensor and then start it. If it runs, you can drive it at low rpm's with it off. It will throw a code with it off, but just reset it after you change it.

If that's not it, verify your spark. If good, ck compression and verify timing belt didn't skip

well, it could be a bad cam sensor, or well it could be a pcm failure, or well it could be some other electrical problem. my idea is i would connect a scanner and have a look at the data information.

I didn't suggest cam (or crank) because he thinks he had a spark. I did ask to verify though to ensure he isn't missing an easy fix.

I didn't state crank cuz he said it's got spark, but wouldn't a bad cam sensor cause no start but still have spark?

CKP = spark
CMP = injector fire/sequencing

heck, maybe it's got a broken flex plate.

I guess we could suggest a dozen things and all of them be wrong too?

Well I borrowed my scanner from work and I came up with 2 codes even tho the CEL wasn't on, came up with a code for the hi speed fan relay and my fav one I'm still battling with P1391 or the crank or cam sensors, replaced the cam sensor and the relay before the rain hit. Went to start it up with no luck so gonna try and replace the crank sensor tomorrow but no clue as to where it is located or if its easy to replace. Does anyone know where it is located or if it easy to replace???

wouldn't it be nice to have a service manual right about now, then you'd have all the answers right in front of you and no delay waiting for answers?

did you actually test the fuel pressure? what is it reading?

crank sensor is super easy to change and located in the trans bellhousing. but if you have spark that sensor is good so changing would be a waste of time and money.

also, if you have a real scanner from work then you'd have access to data stream which would give you indications to cam and crank sensor functions thus taking out all 'guess' work.

Well I'm getting 60lbs of pressure up top so I know its good, and the scanner I have from work is like the ones from Autozone just reads the codes. When I goto replace the crank sensor where exactly is it located on the bell housing and will the car need to be in the air for me to replace it? I'm just hoping it don't break on the way out had that happen on a Sebring hadda drop the damn tranny. And I'm fighting with the P1391 code on my 1st Generation Dakota and its being a pain in my rear end.
