Deck lid warning light staying on

Deck lid warning light staying on
My wife's '00 Intrepid has an intermittent problem with the dash warning light for the deck lid coming on and staying on.
I pulled the trim from the inside of the deck lid and wiggled the cabling while watching the dash light. At a certain point, the light turns itself off, but then it's supposed to be on since the lid is open, leading me to believe that there is a short in the wiring.
As a temporary fix, I unhooked the harness from the lock assembly. While it disabled the remote opener on the dash and the key fob, it didn't turn off the light.
Where do I start diagnosing this? Can't pull a fuse since it shares a circuit with some other lights. Thanks.
