Can anyone tell me if it is possible to add a turbo to an automatic sxt, what it would take to do it, and what brand would be the best bet?Or would it be better to put in a srt4 engine and convert it to a manual?

The best thing would be to do a complete SRT-4 engine/transmission swap, however, you can either purchase a complete turbo kit from Hahn Racecraft ($4,000) or piece together your own turbo kit using an SRT-4 TD04 turbocharger ($2,500-$3,000). Yes you can go ahead and put a turbo system on your automatic transmission. Just keep in mind that the auto tranny is only good up to 250 whp. If your going to do a turbo, you have a good list of choices. I would recommend thinking about a 5spd manual before or after the turbo install if your keeping the block. If you want to end up doing a swap, find a good 5spd tranny and put it in there while doing the swap.

 

Any hahn turbo kit is the best turbo setup for an auto without doing the srt turbo and tranny swap . With a hahn turbo setup is going to be brand new and a srt turbo who knows what your getting . Those srt engines most of them have been badly abused. buyer beware on any ride like a srt4 .

 

well on the hahn website isnt there a non intercooled turbo system as well as the stage 2 turbo/intercooled system.....whats the difference in hp between the two

 

Non-Intercooled turbo systems are dangerous at best...

 

All I know about is the hahn stage 2 . I have that in my 1st gen and it gets about 200hp maybe a little more with everything else I have to go with it . For 2nd gen hahn turbos Ive heard from guys that have them in theres sxts they are really nice and can put out some decent hp .

 

The non-intercooled stage 1 was only the 00-02 model years. Hahn then made a stage2 (intercooled) for the 00-02 Model year. The ONLY Hahn kit that is 100% guaranteed to fit an 03-05 is the $4,400 Stage 2 kit that is intercooled and has the portfueler (costs approx. $1,300 seperately) The 00-02 kits may fit but i'm sure that modifications are going to be needed.

 

How good and reliable are the hanh kits? There's a guy selling one on another forum and i'm considering buying one as opposed to doing the swap. I could save a lot of money...
