bad oil leak info please

Default bad oil leak info please

Ive got an oil leak coming from the area
between the oil pan and trans toward
the front of the car.
Anyone know what I am in for?

How bad is the oil leaking? Sounds like it could be a rear main seal leak...

Real bad!
When I stop it will drop about a 6" puddle .
it seems to not leak whennot running

Probably a rear main seal by the sounds of it...

What can you tell me about the fix.
I've got it jack stands ready to start on it.

After going to autozone and looking
at the rear main seal it looks like the
engine is gonna have to come out.

Yeah a rear main seal repalcement is not for the faint of heart, as far as I know, you dont have to take out the whole engine to replace it...but I've never done one on a Neon, only on a Mustang and a Cobalt... so I'll check out my Chilton and Haynes manuals to see what it has to say about it though.

The Haynes manual says you can do
it without taking the motor out, just the transaxle.
