They are all functional... They bring cool air caught in the scoop and direct it toward the turbo and manifold. The how-to you probably saw was to cut out a circular whole about the airbox and seal it with weather stripping to direct air also into the box.
I had my sxt before I had my acr my sxt is a 04 and my acr was a 05 reason why I downgraded cause my husband made me sell her cause I was puttin to much money into her plus the insurance on a acr is way to much a month. I didnt downgrade since I had the 04 sxt before I had the acr. Plus Im more into autos than im into 5 speeds .
the 'functional hoodscoup mod' for the SRT4 goes beoynd its current function. it comes mainly out of the holes blowing over the pack/wires and the other over the turbo. the front holes also flow air over the radiator area. howver, you can cut a hole in the green area over the airbox, buildup a rubber seal about an inch or so (gotta measure and tweak, measure and tweak) above the airbox, cutting a hole in the airbox as well and afixing the rubber seal to the top of the airbox. this allows for the airbox to gain airflow from the hoodscoup, hence the 'mod'. i believe this was origionally considered in design, hence why there is a 'pocket' over the stock airbox, but was not added to the produciton of the vehicle.
so is the hood scoup functional stock? yes
can you modify to increase its funcionality? yes again
