Default Days of Old...Exhaust

I loved the days when you could take a stock exhaust of a v8 and slap on a redhot or a purple hornie and bask in the wonderful sound of muscle. But I am somewhat lost as to what to do with my little 4 banger neon. What is out there on the market that will give my car the sound of fury other not the sound of a furious chain saw? I tried the removing muffler bit and freaked at how obnoxiously loud it was. I tried the reds and the purple's but thought it sounded silly and yes even tried the unimaginable (and I hate this word but here it comes...) ricer bolt on crap can. All left me thinking all hope was lost. I understand you cant make a 4 sound like an 8 but how close can I get????????

Do you have a cold air intake by chance? I found when I had my neon, after putting in a filter cone intake on my car, the engine sounded rediculously loud, if people hadn't known better, they would have thought it WAS a mustang. I don't think you are going to find an exhaust for a neon and get what you want out of it. I mean srt-4's and wrx's have very unique sounding exhaust systems for 4 cyclinders, but other than that, it's hard to come by a really nice sounding loud exhaust. I loved my vibrant exhaust, but then again, it definately wasn't a sound of a v8, in fact that's why i traded in my neon for a big v8 ram 1500 pickup truck lol! But the cold air intake, if anything, was the "throaty" sound of my car as I came on to people, and the exhaust system was the deep bellow you got after I passed you..do you have a cold air intake? If not, look into K&N's FIPK2 intake system, or AEM's True Cold Air Intake (fender well) intake kit, I had the AEM, and it was very nice, it also looked very nice as well!

Yes I have a cold air intake and as for taking off the muffler and putting on a glass pack I tried that. both brands of glasspacks ie redhots and purple hornies and it sounded buzzy and I didnt like that.

SRT rear section / Cherry bomb in the mid-pipe... I was told back in 2003 when the SRT-4 came out that this set-up would be junk. Well, i did it anyway. I got nothing but compliments on it. And since then alot of people have followed suit.

People still say it sound like junk, but everybody is gonna have a different opinion.

SRT-4 Back pipe, no glasspack, muffler, or resonator = one badass sound. all my friends love the sound and know when i'm coming from a mile away.

4 months with it in and no touble with the pigs. even when they're behind me they dont care how loud it is

either way, glasspack or not. the SRT-4 back pipe is the way to go
