Before I go to the mechanic... Thermostat?
I'm going to try boiling my thermostat when i get home. That's a great idea. Now I just need to figure out where the darn thermo is on the neon. haha I checked the oil and it's not milky or smelling like coolant so that's good.

Its housed just below the filler neck and are held in with two bolts. Remove the two bolts and the housing will pop off. You'll get a new O ring with the new thermostat so be sure to use it. There is a vent on the thermostat that has to line up with a notch on the cylinder head. If you don't line it up, it will not work correctly.

Just a lil side note to the boiling thing. The thermostat is suppose to contract at a certain temp tho (i want to say 180 degressF.but that might be something else) if it doesnt then that means it needs to be replaced
I read up on the thermostat last night. it is supposed to go at 140 degrees. the car is at the mechanic now. I just hope they diagnose it properly. I took it to another mechanic the other day and they said the radiator was blown and it would cost me $2000 to have it fixed. HAHA . I think they were just saying that because I'm a girl. I told them I'm going for a second opinion. I'll let you guys know whats going on when I get a call from the mechanic. I was scouring the internet the other day looking for advice on this problem and didn't find much until I stumbled upon the forum.
Ok so my neon is fixed.
We replaced the thermostat and took it for a drive and the gauge was still spiking. Boyfriend put the car in the air to look at the wiring... there was a stripped wire. That was the problem. It's all fixed now and has a new thermostat and got the radiator flushed. Yay!!! Now I can go to Vegas!
