Default please help - stalls when slowing to 5mph

Ive been noticing a delay in acceleration in my car.

A few months go by I notice that my car starts to stall only when Im breaking and Im about to reach 0mph.

It only does it when Im slowing to about 5 mph. As it is stalling, and i put the car in neutral the stalling stops and then when I put it back into drive everything is fine again.

I have been told it can either be the gas pump but my mechanic told me its the transmission.

You think itcan be either or, perhaps both, or maybe something else?

Ive read online that people that had the same problem as me, that it was their gas pump.
My car is working normal other than slowing down to almost 0mph. For now what I'm doing is im driving my automatic 01 neon as if its a manual hahaha.

I put it in neutral during turns or when im breaking. back into drive when im pressing the gas.

Please help...

Also my other concern is whatever the problem is.... can you suggest what a good price would be to fix my problem parts & labor.

THANKS! Your help is appreciated.

If it's the transmission it's gonna be pricy. Check the plugs? I really don't know. I'd put money on the fuel pump before I said it was the transmission, though. Weird how it only does it in drive. What about in reverse?

could it be the torque converter staying engaged?

could it in any possible way be the exhaust.

could it be possible that it has to do with the engine mounts. i got an oil change and midas says the engine mounts have gone bad. is that the same thing as the torque strut?
