Default Neon 2000 - Water pump removal

Hi,

I see coolant leaks from under the engine - just around and behind the oilpan area. Don't find any hoses there. Do you think it is water pump?

How difficult is it to replace the wwater pump in Neon 2000? Any links or tutorials with photos will be appreciated.

Thanks

REMOVAL
1. Raise vehicle on a hoist. Remove right inner splash shield.
2. Remove accessory drive belts,
3. Drain cooling system Refer to Cooling System Draining.
4. Remove power steering pump attaching bolts and set pump and assembly aside. Power steering lines do not need to be disconnected.
5. Remove upper and lower torque isolator struts.
6. Support engine from the bottom and remove right engine mount attaching bolt.
7. Remove right engine mount bracket,
8. Remove timing belt and timing belt tensioner Refer to Engine for procedures.
9. Remove camshaft sprocket and rear timing belt cover. Refer to Engine for procedures.
10. Remove water pump attaching screws to engine and remove pump.
INSTALLATION
1. Apply Mopar Dielectric Grease to 0-ring before installation.
2. Install new 0-ring gasket in water pump body 0-ring groove.
Make sure 0-ring gasket is properly seated in water pump groove before tightening screws. An improperly located 0-ring may cause damage to the 0-ring, resulting in a coolant leak.
3. Assemble pump body to block and tighten screws to 1 2 Nm (1 05 inch lbs.) . Pressurize cooling system to 1 5 psi with pressure tester and check water pump shaft seal and 0-ring for leaks.
4. Rotate pump by hand to check for freedom of movement.
5. Install rear timing belt cover and camshaft sprocket.
6. Install timing belt tensioner and timing belt Refer to Engine for procedure.
7. Install right engine mount bracket. Refer to Engine for procedure.
8. Install upper and lower torque isolator struts. Refer to Engine for procedure.
9. Fill cooling system
10. Install accessory drive belts.

i'd say on a scale of 1-10 its about an 8... If you've done it before its not so bad. I've done one in about 6 hours. If its your first try, then put aside at least a weekend.

While you have everything apart, i'd replace the timing belt as well.

Bump:

I'd suggest replacing the serpentine belt tensioner Pully also, while your in there. The tensioner is attached to the plate the power steering pump is bolted to & is a pia to remove when the tensioner pully bearings sieze, so replace that puppy while the plate is out & its easy to get at. One T40 torx bolt to take the pully off. I just paid Rock Auto $9 shipped to my door. Local parts stores wanted $20-$35
