RE: Smoke at Startup
Talk about getting bent out of shape.
1) how long ago did you put your magical oil in along with your uber l33t oil filter from k-mart?
I already posted the answer in my original post 40K...3 oil changes so far I'm now at 70K
2) you said it makes "smoke signals" when you start it up... now is that a cold start up or just when you start it up in general?
Cold start and warm starts both have smoke but in general the longer it sets the more smoke at startup...once it burns off no smoke...not using much of any oil...car is driven 25K miles a year.
3) what color is the smoke? (blue, grey?)
White
4) what is the average temp. outside when you start the car? (if it is very cold out then the choke could be stuck open causing...yes you guessed it... smoke!)
Live in Phoenix it was 94 today...when I started it up it was in the 70's. Could not be the choke because smoke only last for 10-15 seconds engine hasn't warmed up enough to turn it off. Checked the intake for oil...non. Checked the air filter...non. checked the plugs...all tight no signs of oil getting in that way. Valve guide sealhas probably gone bad enough for oil to leak in a few drops at a time over a span of hours when it sits and at startup it burns it off. The engine runs like it always has.

RE: Smoke at Startup
or your POS oil filter is clogged and not working properly so your motor could just be burning off all the crap it lets through.... and white smoke isn't bad... if it was blue that would mean you are burning oil.... white is just condensation or if the A/C is on it could be b/c of that as well.... hmmm but i highly down the valve guide seal went bad... and so you put the oil filter on 30,000 miles ago? why didnt you change it.... so you just did an oil change? i'd try seafoaming your car... changing the plugs, oil and oil filter and see if it still smokes..... but thats just me
