Possible tranny problem?
Hey everyone...I'm gonna try and describe the problem as best I can...
Recently I noticed if I have to take of from a dead stop, or take off uphill when pressing the throttle harder than normal, or when trying to take off faster than normal...my car vibrates briefly...almost like its trying to spin the tires but cant...the best i can describe is it feels similar to anti-lock breaks on ice...the pulsation...only this is not brake related...Also every now and then between 1st and 2nd gear there will be a slight vibration..almost like running over some gravel...Not sure if this is a tranny problem or if there is something else that could cause it? Any insght is greatly appreciated! P.S. this is the stock 3 speed ATX.

RE: Possible tranny problem?
Thats what I was thinking, but at the same time I know the tranny fluid was replaced last year because my connector for the tranny fluid cooling hose rusted out of my radiator about this time last year and completely drained...I guess i'd have to dig out the paper work and see exactly what the shop used as far as replacing the fluid..and see weather they replaced the filter or not.

yeah...found the receipt..they didnt touch the filter...they just threw in the new radiator and filled the tranny fluid & coolant..they just used standard MOPAR tranny fluid...so ill look into replacing the filter & fluid...its a pretty stright forward / simple do it yourself project to replace the filter, right? I've never done anything w/ tranny's other than replacing the gasket around the pan on an old '84 Bonneville...

RE: Possible tranny problem?
I have read that the ATX in the neon is very sensitive to the type of fluid that is put into it. I think that the ATF+4 was developed for these kind of transmissions and that it is a nesessety. I think that it has to do with the dynamics of the fluid and heat transfer. But yea, by putting in new oil without replacing the filter will cause even more dirt and oil deposits to gather on the old filter. Get it done asap.

dont forget about the magnet in the pan.... most all have them (mine did) if you have had rust problems in the line make sure to get it all out,l alot should have collected on the magnet... also i would flush it while you have the pan off to make sure you get it all out!
